Model Description
Built between 1996 and 2003 and also commonly known as the Thundercat, the YZF6 was Yamaha’s rival to Honda’s hugely popular supersport, the CBR600F and, as the last of the all-rounder 600s before Yamaha’s far more extreme R6 in 1999, was one of the best of the breed. It’s 599cc engine produced a useful, flexible 100bhp; its decent proportions, full fairing and not-too-extreme riding position meant it was comfortable and versatile and it was decent value, too. Overshadowed a little in its day by the CBR, in later years the YZF has become regarded as a durable, value and versatile used buy.
