In the 1970s, Aprilia’s Scarabeo motocrosser, which came in 50 and 125cc capacities, proved very popular in Italy and in 1977 the firm won the Italian 125 and 250cc motocross championships.
In the 1980s, the Italian firm expanded further into enduro and trails machines and in 1992 its Climber model, ridden by Finn Tommy Ahvala, won the world trails championship.
Around the same time, though, the Italian firm began to concentrate on road and, later, larger capacity machines, although its recent RXV and SXV 450 and 550 V-twins, launched in 2006, have proved successful in enduro and supermoto respectively.
