Model Description
Produced between 1996 and 2001 the Royal Star was Yamaha’s attempt at producing a Harley-Davidson ElectraGlide-rivalling, US-style, ‘full-dress tourer’ but based, not around a traditional air-cooled V-twin, but on a restyled and retuned version of Yamaha’s massive VMax V4 powerplant. Producing 75bhp from its 1294cc engine with masses of torque it’s a decent attempt, too, although, ultimately, although different, interesting and capable, it could not compete with the Harley on one side and Honda’s impressive six-cylinder GoldWing on the other.
