Model Description
Big FJ began life in 1983 as Yamaha’s first litre class supersports but was quickly overtaken by events, namely Kawasaki then Suzuki’s radical GPz900R and GSX-R750F. Instead, the FJ was re-positioned as a ‘sports-tourer’ a role in which it came to excel thanks to its fabulously flexible and grunty, air-cooled, four-cylinder powertrain, secure handling and capacious accommodation. In 1987 it evolved into the better still FJ200, which remains a desirable buy today. But the original 1100 is still useful and, indeed, almost a classic.
