Model Description
Before Honda’s CBR600F ignited the supersports 600 class in 1987, performance middleweights were 550cc, air-cooled and hugely competitive. Suzuki’s 1983 GSX550 was one of the last to join the fray against the likes of Honda’s CBX550 and Kawasaki’s GPz and with attractive styling, effective full fairing and 66bhp from its 572cc, four-valve four, it was a decent performer, too although, on the downside, its then fashionable 16inch front wheel slightly compromised handling. Produced until 1987 before being replaced by the all-new liquid-cooled GSX600F, it was quickly overtaken by the new breed of 600s.
