Model Description
Like the Norge tourer, which was introduced slightly earlier, the Stelvio 1200 is effectively a different variant of Guzzi’s significantly modernized Griso roadster as first launched in 2005. But where the Norge is a classic, fully faired tourer, the Stelvio is a full-sized adventure bike in a similar style to BMW’s hugely popular GS. To create that, the Stelvio (named appropriately after an Italian alpine pass) used the same frame and transverse V-twin, shaft drive powertrain but with 19/17-inch wheels, longer travel suspension and adventure style bodywork. It’s a decent performer, too, if not quite matching the lighter dynamism and more modern sophistication of the GS and other rivals. While the later, 105bhp 8V from 2011 and more lavishly equipped NTX from 2009, are better still.
