Model Description
Although now superseded by the all-new 1400 California, it’s the old 1100, and before that the 1000, which is most people’s idea of a classic Guzzi. Dating way back to the original CHiPs police highway patrol bikes of the early 1970s (hence the name), it’s a US-style cruiser/tourer with classic Plexiglas screen and hard panniers and all the traditional Guzzi features of lazy, shaft-drive, air-cooled, transverse V-twin, hefty but solid tubular steel frame; reasonable Italian handling (including linked Brembo brakes) and bags of slightly crude comfort. It’s more than a little old-fashioned now, but what it lacks in performance and sophistication the California 1100 makes up for with character and charisma.
