Model Description
The name given to THE powerhouse superbike of the early ‘80s actually encompasses a whole family of machines. The original big GPz11 was not only the first of the whole GPz family, but also marked the beginning of the end of Kawasaki’s all-conquering air-cooled, two-valve fours. Essentially an enlarged Z1000J it also boasted fuel injection and today, along with its cockpit-faired successor is considered a classic. The succeeding ‘Unitrak’ monoshock versions from 1983, complete with swoopy, half-faired bodywork was also (briefly) the boss superbike of its day before being rendered obsolete by the all-new GPz900R. All, today, are classics. The name was then revived briefly in the early ‘90s as a more budget, sport-touring spin-off of the liquid-cooled ZZ-R1100 – decent enough, but also unremarkable.
