Honda V4 fans had been impatient for an all-new ‘VFR’ ever since the 2001 V-TEC had probably extended the originals life one generation too far and after years of teasers Honda eventually obliged with the all-new VFR1200F in 2010. In short: it hasn’t been the success hoped for it. Don’t get us wrong, the big, V4, now shaft-drive sports-tourer isn’t a bad bike – far from it. The latest V4 is hugely impressive, its handling decent and the optional, novel, semi-automatic DCT (for ‘Dual Clutch Transmission’) gearbox truly impressive, if, for some, unnecessary. But it’s also a little odd-looking, over heavy and, compared to the latest rivals which bristle with electronic rider aids and the like, under-equipped. A decent and solid (and reasonable value) used buy, though.
