Model Description
The growth in popularity of ‘super nakeds’ – sports and superbikes stripped of their fairings to become fun-packed roadsters – has spawned offerings from all the major manufacturers. But Honda’s CB1000R, effectively a naked CBR1000RR Fireblade, took longer to arrive than most. In truth that’s because Honda being Honda revised it’s offering more fully than most, too.
The CB1000R, launched in 2008 and unchanged since, may use a CBR four-cylinder engine, but it’s been detuned (to 130bhp) and smoothed. It also gained a VFR-style singled-sided swing arm and funky styling. In fact, all it lacks is a bit of grunty soul and the extreme performance of more recent offerings. Instead it’s a classy, effective roadster that’s almost too polished for its own good.
